How admission works

The Chiles Academy has no attendance zone. It enrolls pregnant and parenting students. Its academic program page asks new students to bring:

  • A withdrawal form or transcripts
  • Proof of pregnancy or the baby’s birth certificate
  • Proof of address, such as a phone or light bill
  • A Social Security card and identification
  • A parent or legal guardian, if the student is under 18

Students from out of state also need a certified birth certificate and the Florida physical exam and immunization forms. Babies must be at least 2 weeks old to enroll in the school’s child care, and the page lists the documents they need. The school asks families to call 386-322-6102 with questions.

  • Federal count: 90 students in the 2024-25 school year, according to the NCES directory.
  • State figure: the state’s report card shows current enrollment. It is an interactive dashboard and could not be read for this page.

State report card

The Chiles Academy is not on the Florida Department of Education’s 2026 school grades list, so it has no letter grade this year. Its state report card holds its test results, graduation figures and student data; it is an interactive dashboard and could not be read for this page.

Over four academic years the school graduated 91 students with standard high school diplomas, an average of 22 a year, it says on its vision page, which does not name the years.

The program

The school’s academic page describes a hybrid model: core classes online through the Edgenuity platform used across the district, with state-certified teachers in an online learning lab, plus live classes such as creative writing, financial literacy math, algebra, geometry, art and a constitutional law course. Every student takes a parenting class. The school serves students with IEPs, offers ESOL services as needed and offers SAT, ACT and PERT preparation, the page says.

The campus is the former Bonner Elementary site, 11 acres in Midtown that Bonner left when it closed in 2008, according to the school. It also runs a community child care program.

Calendar

The academic year began Monday, Aug. 10, the same day as the district’s, the school’s academic page says. Volusia County Schools’ 2026-27 calendar (PDF) has a student holiday Monday, Oct. 12, Veterans Day on Wednesday, Nov. 11, Thanksgiving break Nov. 23-27 and winter break Dec. 21 to Jan. 4, 2027; ask the school whether it follows each of those dates. The school has a bell schedule page, which was empty on Oct. 9.
